The GVMA Foundation was again awarded a grant from the Dog and Cat Sterilization Program through the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA). Veterinarians cannot individually access the program so the GVMA Foundation applied for the grant and will distribute those funds to all participating GVMA members. The GVMA Board of Directors voted at the beginning of the year to sponsor the Careers section of a mobile classroom for agriculture that is being developed by the Georgia Farm Bureau’s Foundation, the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture. Veterinary medicine will be prominently featured and promoted to STEM school children in grades 3-5. 228 Georgia veterinarians participated in a survey by the Stanton Foundation (and received Amazon gift cards) on the impact of finances on patient care. The GVMA was one of 5 people/groups who sent a letter to the State Board of Veterinary Medicine about proposed rule changes that could negatively impact veterinarians.. On Wednesday, December 2nd, GVMA President Dr. Justin Toth spoke about these concerns at the virtual State Board meeting. The Georgia Veterinary Education Loan Repayment Program (GVELRP or Program) is administered by the State Veterinary Education Board (Board) with assistance from the Georgia Student Finance Authority (GSFA).  The Board also receives administrative support from the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
