Event Details

This 2-hour session is intended to provide an overview of patient safety culture that includes an explanation of what patient safety culture is, how patient safety culture benefits both patients and veterinary workers, and practical steps for establishing a positive culture of patient safety in veterinary workplaces.

As a result of completing this session, participants should have an understanding of:

  • The impact of medical errors on patients and care providers
  • What patient safety culture is and the 7 basic components of a positive patient safety culture
  • The role that organizational factors play in medical errors and near misses and how to apply the “Swiss cheese” model of error to incident investigation
  • The role that reporting, inclusive of medical errors, near misses, and “harmless hits”, plays in positive patient safety culture
  • Practical steps for building a positive patient safety culture

This event is approved by the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine to offer up to 2 LEAP CE credits.
