Did you know that your support staff helping with x-rays must have taken a 6-hour safety certification course? If you would like to read about it, check out the Radiation Control Act, O.C.G.A. – Chapter 31-13 and the Rules and Regulations for X-Ray, Chapter 290-5-22.
The law says your support staff must have this certification. If your hospital is inspected by the State Department of Human Resources, documentation must be presented indicating that your staff has received training. If you cannot provide this documentation your hospital could be fined.
The certification is to ensure that your staff and patients are safe and do not get exposed or have limited radiation exposure. The certification must begin within 30 days of hire and must be completed within 90 days. Since we cannot smell, taste, touch or see radioactivity, it is even more imperative that your staff understands the risk.
The GVMA has collaborated with RAD 101 Radiological Training to provide an online radiological safety class for your staff. Certificates of completion will be earned after passing the final exam.
Each GVMA member veterinarian can have staff register for the class at $75/person with a 20 % discount. Have a larger group that needs to get certified? Group purchases of 5 or 10 memberships are already discounted and then you get an additional 20% off with your GVMA Member discount code.
GVMA members, please remember to consider safety for all that work in your hospital or out in the field—this is an investment in you and your staff!!
