Reminder: Check Your Veterinary License Status Before January 31, 2025

Take a moment to verify your license status by January 31, 2025.

Use the Georgia Secretary of State’s License Lookup Tool to confirm your status.

Understanding License Status

  • Active: Your license is current, and you may practice without restrictions.
  • Active – Renewal Pending: Your license is valid, and you can practice. However, it’s your responsibility to frequently check the status until it updates to Active.

Steps to Mitigate Potential Renewal Disruptions

  1. Inform Vendors:
Notify vendors about potential delays and confirm they understand the “Active – Renewal Pending” status. Encourage vendor representatives to communicate with their data managers or compliance teams to prevent disruptions.
  2. Notify Online Pharmacies:
Inform your pharmacy partners about potential delays and confirm the specific information they’ll need to continue processing prescriptions.

Key State Board Reminders

  • Application Processing:
    • Applications are processed in the order received.
    • If you receive a deficiency letter, submit all requested items together to avoid delays.
    • Incomplete applications may be withdrawn after 60 days of notification, requiring you to restart the process, including fees and documents.
    • Applications must be complete and received at least 15 days before a Board meeting to be reviewed at that meeting.
  • Active Licenses Only:
You cannot legally perform services until your license status is Active or Active – Renewal Pending.
  • Keep Contact Information Updated:
Ensure your email address on file is current, as email is the primary means of communication for the Board.

The GVMA encourages all veterinarians to stay proactive during this renewal period.
