Pain management in food animals is limited in the United States. This presentation will cover why there is only one drug approved for pain mitigation, options for pain management in cattle and small ruminants, and the differences in the pharmacokinetics between cattle and small ruminants. An update in the status of xylazine and options for substitution will be discussed.
