Topics
- Feline Ophthalmology: Cats are not dogs, and as such, their ophthalmic diseases are often treated very differently. We will review common diseases specific to our feline patients (cornea, conjunctiva, uvea, and chorioretina), as well as therapies that work. We will also discuss a few tips of the trade that may make both patients and their owners happier and more compliant.
-
Ocular Procedures and Surgery in your Practice: This session will take us through a video and picture tutorial to review basic procedures and surgeries that can be performed in your clinic pending your comfort level and experience. We will review what surgical instruments should be in your “eye” pack. Surgical procedures discussed will include temporary eyelid tacking, nasolacrimal flushing, entropion repair, eyelid margin mass removal, replacement of prolapsed glands of the nictitans, enucleation, and corneal debridement and keratotomy.
-
Glaucoma in Veterinary Medicine – Surgical and Medical Management: Glaucoma in our veterinary patients is often a devastating and exhausting disease that eventually leads to discomfort and blindness. Early recognition, understanding how it manifests, and knowing what drug therapies are appropriate will significantly improve your management outcome. We will review current medical treatments and management protocols, in addition to surgical intervention (gonioimplants and laser cyclophotocoagulation). Aggressive treatment and careful monitoring can provide many of these patients extended comfortable, sighted years.
-
Don’t Have a Meltdown…..A Discussion of Corneal Ulcer Management: One of the most common ophthalmic complaints to your practice will be a corneal ulcer. This case-based, photographically driven session will break corneal ulcers up into three groups: simple, non-healing/non-infected, and infected/malacic. We will review how to appropriately treat and manage each group and discuss when and why a referral may be warranted.
