April 24th, Pet Grief Webinar – 2 LEAP Hours

Pet Grief & Loss

Led by Dr. Cindi Branch, PhD
Provides 2 CE Credit Hours (LEAP CE-approved by the GA State Board of Vet Med)
Wednesday, April 24, 2024 @ 7 – 8:40 pm EST

Most State Board cases of unprofessional conduct involve communications issues. Because pet death is highly emotional, the words, actions or inactions of veterinary professionals take on heightened sensitivity. This session will help these professionals: understand grief; display empathy; and communicate support. An awareness of the stages of grief will ensure these veterinary professionals are better prepared for the complexities of pet death. This course will demonstrate how to create a nurturing environment for the patient/client by examining what to say and what not to say during this emotional period. This can help minimize the opportunity for miscommunication and dissatisfied clients.

Course Outline & Objectives

1. Understanding pet grief and it’s stages
2. The importance of body language when talking with clients about euthanasia
3. Communication guidance when talking with someone who has lost their pet.
4. The important difference in how you make grieving clients feel vs. what you say to them.
