Provides 6 CE Credit Hours
Led by Laura Smallwood, DVM, DACVIM-SAIM, RYT-200

The Course provides experiential training in mindfulness with an emphasis on applying what is learned to coping with and recovering from stressful experiences in the workplace.

Training Structure:

  • Participants meet weekly for one hour for a total of six sessions.
  • In each session, participants will be introduced to a formal mindfulness practice. Practices taught include body scan meditation, sitting meditation, walking meditation and mindful movement.
  • You will learn about stress, explore habitual behavioral, physical, emotional, and cognitive patterns, and investigate more effective and skillful responses to the challenges and demands in the workplace. Other areas of exploration include self-care, how to relate to oneself and others more effectively, and the cultivation of behaviors that enhance wellbeing.
  • Each session will include a period of discussion during which participants will explore the application of what they are learning in class to veterinary work.
  • By the end of this training, participants will have learned a variety of formal and informal methods for cultivating attentional skills that support stress resilience and recovery.
  • Participants will be given access to a webpage where class materials, program notes, recorded audio guidance for all practices introduced in the program, and additional resources will be posted.
