VetSouth 2023: A Weekend of Learning, Inspiration, and Connecting

This past weekend, we gathered for VetSouth 2023, and it was a record-breaking event in every sense! With 412 attendees from 24 different states, this year at Avalon really surpassed all expectations and solidified what makes VetSouth the South’s premier veterinary conference.

One of the standout features of this year’s meeting was the emphasis on hands-on learning. The ultrasound wet labs, a favorite from last year, continued to be such a hit! Attendees had the unique opportunity to enhance practical skills under the guidance of amazing DVMs and technicians from SAVES and Dogwood Emergency & Specialty. Additionally, the introduction of our new ophthalmology wet lab was met with great engagement. GVMA is committed to bringing the latest and most relevant educational experiences to our members and the Georgia veterinary community.

The weekend was not all about CE, though! The Board of Directors met on Sunday, during which Dr. Mackey handed over the gavel to the incoming GVMA President, Dr. Jonothan Bentley. Dr. Jackie Luckstone was unanimously elected as the new President-elect.

Another unique aspect of VetSouth was the inclusion of some hand-painted pieces in the tricky tray raffle! Those in attendance had the chance to win these one-of-a-kind creations. Special thanks to all the vendors who generously hosted these artworks at your booths, and making our exhibit hall particularly gorgeous!

The success of VetSouth would not be possible without each of our exhibitors and sponsors who play an integral role in making it the unique experience it is, and helping keep our registration costs down. Their support and involvement have helped create the unique VetSouth experience for the Georgia veterinary community.

We hope all of our VetSouth attendees left Avalon not only with a new wealth of knowledge and skills but also with newfound connections and a rekindled passion for our work. The GVMA will continue bringing you VetSouth as a vital platform for professional growth and connection in our community.

As we look back on this year, we are so excited for the future of GVMA events: the promise of even more hands-on learning experiences, providing high-quality CE, and a space for discourse on the latest trends and updates of vet med. With the dedication of the GVMA staff, the Board of Directors, the commitment of its members, and the continued support of sponsors and exhibitors, we will work to ensure VetSouth continues to be a cornerstone of veterinary education and networking.
