Overview

This course reviews legalities and standards of compounding in the veterinary setting. An introduction to Georgia and Federal compounding laws and regulations will be discussed. Compounding standards within the veterinary practice and outsourcing options are detailed.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to,

1. Define compounding and discuss the need for veterinary compounding.
2. Discuss legalities of veterinary compounding including state and federal regulations.
3. Discuss compounding standards and review processes in your veterinary setting to identify areas for improvement.
4. Implement practices working towards compliance of compounding laws and standards.
5. Determine when and where to outsource compounding activities.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Heather Lindell Tally, PharmD, BSPH, RPh, FSVHP, DICVP
Dr. Heather Lindell Tally is Board Certified by the International College of Veterinary Pharmacy (ICVP) in veterinary pharmacy practice and received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia (UGA) in 1994. She teaches both veterinary students at the UGA Veterinary College and pharmacy students at the UGA Pharmacy College and is a pharmacist at Northside Hospital Forsyth (human). She is the Director of Learning and Organization Development at Pet Vet Clinic in Cartersville, GA where she precepts students from UGA, Duquesne University, and Presbyterian College and keeps the clinic compliant within regulatory considerations. She also consults other veterinary clinics for regulatory compliance and is a VIN regulatory and clinical pharmacology consultant. She is the founder of the Veterinary Pharmacy Educational Group (VPEG) and founder of the UGA Varsity Equestrian Booster Club. She received the Distinguished Alumna Award from the UGA Pharmacy College for the 2016-2017 Academic year.
